摘要
This article first describes the social and economic situation confronted by English majors after China's entry into the WTO. It then proposes the necessary abilities English majors in CUMT should develop during their four years' study. Finally it points out the measures which the English Department has taken to challenge the new socio-economic situation.
中国加入世界贸易组织以后,英语专业学生面临着新形势的挑战,对理工科大学的英语专业学生而言,形势尤为严峻。为适应新的形势,英语专业学生除必须具备四项基本能力外,还要具备跨文化交流能力和知识应用能力,同时积极获取人文、社会、自然科学知识。为此,理工大学英语教学必须提升学生的时代意识,改革现行课程体系,突出人文思想的教育,充分利用理工大学特点,使人文意识与科技精神完美结合。
