摘要
For a long time, the method used to estimate the number of words a learner can recognize has been applied in many investigations, but few questions have been asked about the validity and appropriateness of the method itself. This paper calls for more attention to another field of vocabulary survey, the assessment of the depth of vocabulary knowledge, which introduces some methods to get a whole picture of the learners' vocabulary knowledge.
