８０年代开始，东南亚华人企业集团的海外投资迅速发展。１９９７年金融危机爆发后，这些华人企业集团的海外企业受到严重波及。此后，东南亚华人企业集团对海外企业进行了一系列战略重组与结构调整，以摆脱经营困境，重振竞争优势。

Since the 1980s. the overseas investment of ethnic Chinese conglomerates expanded rapidly. These conglomerates suffered serious losses in the financial crisis in 1997. They engaged in a series of strategic restructuring so as to get rid of the difficulties and raise their competitiveness.
