Beginning with the analysis of the themes, the materials, the artistic taste and the writing style of Qian Zhongshu's novels, the thesis discusses in detail Qian Zhongshu's psychology of novel writing. It is concluded that Qian Zhongshu's novels have deep consciousness of crisis and strong criticism of human nature; his superficial anti intelligentsia is his concealed reaction through which he esteems real learning and safeguards the dignity of learning; he does not show off his talent or learning, but there was preeminent talent and knowledge shown in his novels; his writing style neither equals nor violates his true self as a man; his philosophy of life is not pessimism but profound optimism based on pessimism.
