Scapulohumeral Periarthritis Treated with Manipulation and Flashing Fire Clapping

Scapulohumeral periarthritis( frozen shoulder) is caused by deficiency of vital Qi, failure of superficial Qi to protect the body against diseases, strain or injury of shoulder and invasion of the wind, cold and damp. The manipulation and flash fire clapping can be used to relax spasm of muscles and tendons, promote blood circulation, clear and activate the channels and collaterals and drive out the wind, cold and damp. The manipulation includes kneading, grasping, twining, separating adhesion and pressing digital acupoints. For the flash fire clapping, firstly, some Chinese herbs are prescribed to soak in the wine with 98% alcohol for 30 days. Then a piece of gauze is prepared to dip into the herbal wine and set on fire. The gauze with fire is quickly clapped on the pain area or points and kept there for 3 seconds. The clapping practice is repeated 5 to 10 times on each point and the total time for each treatment is 5 to 10 minutes. It is found to have a very good effects on scapulohumeral periarthritis.
