Modern Science on Essence, Vital Energy and Spirit of TCM

“精”,中医认为是物质,这种物质就是我们所指的生命物质。“气”,中医也认为是物质,其实,“气”多半不是物质,而是生命物质的活力,它在一定的意义上与“阳”有相同的意义。“气”的物质(氧气)性可归于“精”。“神”,中医与现代科学在认识上相同点比较多,可以认为其主流就是人体的神经系统。“神”表现的生命活力的一面可归结为“气”的范畴。

According to the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM),essence is regarded as a material called life material. The same is true of vital energy. Virtually, vital energy might not be a material, but vigour for life material, which,to a certain degree, carries the same meaning as Chinese Yang (the masculine). Its materiality could largely be labelled as essence. As for spirit, TCM shares the same view as modern science. Its main aspect would be nurve system of human body. And life energy it manifests could be classified to the category of vital energy.
