This article introduces the basic knowledge of inventory management in manufacturing enterprises. The types, functionality and risks of inventory are discussed as while as the major measurement of inventory level introduced. Seeking balance points and integrative consideration are highlighted as two most important principles of inventory management. Although the application of MRPII and ERP are currently considered as most powerful weapons, the tidal wave of internet and e-commerce is rapidly changing the shape and rules of inventory management.
