摘要
光明预示社会现实，预示希望，而黑暗预示罪恶和精神上的绝望。海底世界、河口和山中水潭是宇宙万物生存与抗争的缩影。珍珠美丽无比，象征人类的一种美好的幻想；珍珠也好比是一面镜子，既能看出人类美好的一面，也能看出人类丑恶的一面。小说以基诺捡到珍珠为开端，以基诺把珍珠扔回大海为结局，象征着一个幻想的破灭。而珍珠又回到大海，静静地躺在那里，等待着另一个基诺式的人物再开始一个新的梦想。罪恶，抗争和觉醒，又一个幻想破灭，又回到新的现实之中，就好象大自然一样，周而复始。
The novel of Pearl is full of symbolism: brightness is symbolic of the reality, hope and future while darkness the evil, crime and despair. The sea bottom, the river mouth and mountion pool are mintatures in which all living things struggle for survival. Pearl is beautiful. It stands for beautiful dreams and a mirror which reflects the good and the evil. At the end of the novel the pearl returned to the sea waiting for someone like Kino to start again everything as the general courses in nature.
