In order to study the mechanism of atherosclerosis in children with simple obesity, the serum levels of vitamin E(Vit E), superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, lipid peroxide (LPO) and xanthine oxidase (XOD) activity were measured in 30 children with simple obesity. The results showed that the level of oxidation in children with simple obesity was significantly higher than that in normal children, while there was no significant difference in the level of antioxidation. It suggested that such an imbalance between oxidation and antioxidation might result in the oxidative modification of lowdensity lipoprotein, injury the vascular endothelial cell and aggregate the pathologic process of atherosclerosis in children with simple obesity.
