September 1998 saw the Successful staging of China Princess Tulando,the Sichuan Opera written by renowned playwright Wei Minglun and Tulando,the Italian Opera directed by movie director Zhang Yimou,which marked an unprecedented dialogue between Sichuan Opera and Italian Opera,a successful cultural exchange between the West and the East. Wei Minglun relaxingly referred to the Italian Opera Tulando as having absorbed the creams of Eastern cultures and being strong in the music,while to the Sichuan Opera Tulando as having absorbed the creams of Western cultures and being strong in the libretto.Each has its own advantages which have been given full play in the performances.
