This article points out that the container ship is a most rapidly developed ship type among all the ship types and has be-come one of three main transportation vessels in the world,possessing a good shipbuilding market. It also describes the classification of container ship and the technical characteristics of Panamax type container ship. The author considers that the Post-Panamax type container ship has more obvious virtues as compared with Panamax type container ship and it will become the main type of ship in the early 21st century on the main routes of three continents.
