In order to iuvestigate the possibl. involvemeut of the antigen CA5o in petlents with colorectal carcinoma, the carbohydrate antigen CA50 serum vaiue. was examined in 30 normal individuals, 27 Patients with benign colomtal diseares and 66 Patieots with coloradoal cortinoma by lmmunoradiometric assay (IRMA). The results shoed that the serum CA50 value in patients with coloretalcarcinoma was significantly higher than that in petients with benign colorectal diseeees or in normalcontrol group (P< 0. 01). It significaotly declined after radical operation was performed (P<0. 01). However, no significant change was noted arter Palliative operation (P > 0. 05) and elevatedlevels noted with tumor recurrence. We concluded that the measurement of serum CA50 may be auseful marker for diagnosis and prognostic evaluation or Patients with colorectal carcinoma.
