Objective To understand the regulation and control of the position of the diencophalon followingmethoxyflurane. halothane, enflurane and isoflurane anesthesia. Methods: By using Fos--oncoprotein antibody immunohistochemical technique(ABC method), the distribution of c--fos oncogene expression in the diencophalon was observed under optical microscope (Olympus ). Results: Fifteen Fos--like immunoreactive neurons appeared in the diencophalon. They were Paraventricular thalanlic nucleus. central medial thalarnic nucleus, reuniens thalamic nucleus, rhomboid thalamic nucleus, dorsal endopiriform nucleus. dorsal lateralgeniculate nucleus. lateral posterior thalamic nucleus, laterdorsal thalamic nucleus, periventeriicular hypothealamic nucleus, median preoptic nucleus, supraoptic nucleus, arcute hyothalamic nucleus, suprachiasmatic nucleus, ventral posterolateral thalamic nucleus and habenular nucleus. Conclusion: The inhalationanesthetics in diencophalon do not spread all over the place but have clear acting positions.
