A new hot working technology, canned hot forging, was developed and successfully applied for TiAl intermetallic compound which has difficulty in thermal deformation. Different from traditional hot working specimens,the canned hot forging TiAl specimen can greatly deform with intact surface at high strain rate. The stress analysis reveals that canned hot forging improves the thermal deformability of TiAl alloy because the maximum shear stress can be dramatically reduced in three dimension compression.
