第八届全国运动会将于10月12日至24日在上海市举行。这是本世纪最后一次水平最高、规模最大的全国性综合运动会。 在20世纪百年历史进程中,中华民族经历了半个世纪的苦难和奋斗,最终争得了后半个世纪的光明时代。人民的解放、国家的富强,给体育事业的发展开辟了广阔的道路,新中国成立以来的48年中,我国的群众体育活动蓬勃发展,竞技运动也取得了辉煌的成就。到今年6月底,我国运动员获得了1054个世界冠军,创超世界纪录854次,其中改革开放以来获世界冠军1024个,创超世界纪录673次。八运会是在20世纪即将结束时举行的,是一次继往开来。

The 8th National Games that will be held in Shanghai from October 12 to October 24 is the last comprehensive sport. games held in China in this century with the highest level, the largest scale and the greatest influence.The equipment and facilities in the studium and gyms represent the highest level of the type in our country. There are altogether more than 80 stadiums and gyms for the games among which 41 were newly built or reconstructed, including Shanghai Stadium and Shanghai International Shooting Range. New and advanced science and technology will be used to supply excellent information service for competitions, propaganda, direction and spectators both at home and abroad. The electronic system is the most complete in facilities, the greatest in coverage and the most advanced in technology than that ever used at national games before.There are a series of reforms in the setup of sports items, scoring and awarding, and participation at the games, giving prominence to sportsmanship. We hope that the 8th National Games will be one with highest competition level and lofty sportsmanship. In recent years, the People's Congress and State Council have successively issued《Sports Law》and 《Program For The Health Of The Whole People,》 National Sports Commission has worked out the 《Plans To Win Honours at Olympic Games.》 The 8th National Games is not only the review of achievements in developing sports, but also an important move to carry out our Party's policies in sports and 《Sports Law》, the move to implement the two programs.
