新春伊始,记者走访了第八届全运会筹备委员会秘书长、上海市体委主任金永昌,请他谈谈本届体育盛会的筹备和上海备战的情况。 筹备“八运”紧锣密鼓 金永昌说,八运会为国人所瞩目,不仅仅八运会是本世纪末我国最后一个全国综合性运动会,而且又逢年内香港回归祖国、党的十五大召开,意义十分重要,影响也很大。在国家体委和上海市政府的领导下,八运会的筹备工作已全面启动。1996年7月,成立了上海八运会筹备小组,12月底建立了八运会筹备委员会,目前已有22个部门挂牌办公,各个项目的竞赛委员会也在抓紧筹备。

The Ninth National Games has become the focus of the nation' s attention. It is not only the last national games in this century, but held in the year of Hongkong' s return to its mothland and of the opening of the 15th congress of the Chinese Communist Party. It is of great significance and of far-reaching influence. Under the leadership of the National Sports Commission and Shanghai Municipal Government, the preparatory work for the games has started in an all - round way. In June, 1996, the leading body for the preparatory work for the games was formed, At the end of December, the preparatory committee for the games was set up. By now , 22 departments have put up their shingle and started handling official business. The preparation for competition commissions of various sports items are under way.At the games, there are 28 major competitive items involving 319 sports events.It is estimatedthat there will be 332 medals,30 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and 16 occupational sports asociations will participate in the games, Hongking, after its return, may also participate in the competition of some items . The number of participating athletes , refereces and officials will reach about 1200. Our tentative idea is to set up 32 competition commissions among which 28 items will be entrusted to be hosted by districts and counties, 1 by Shanghai Institute of Physical Education, the rest by units directly affiliated to the municipal sports commission. 80 studiums and gyms are provided for competition and training, among which 40 are being built or reconstructed and they will be completed by August.Shanghai Stadium with 80000 spectator seats, Shanghai International Tennis Center and International Shooting Center,after their completion ,will be of world class .The opening ceremony is planned prelinimarity to be held in the new stadium on October, 5; the closing ceremony with be held in Shanghai gymnasium.
