Component matching problem is significant in fluid-mechanical engineering, but has not been studied sufficiently. Its essence is demonstrated in this paper as the effects of disturbance caused by up and down-stream components on the flow field. Several cases are discussed in which component matching problem will occur in axial-flowt compressors.The problem can be settled through (1) properly determining boundary conditions with the effects of adjacent components taken into account, (2)studying the effect of boundary conditions on the behaviour of the concerned flow-field. Parameters including flow velocity (Mach number) and characteristic frequencies are mentioned which are relevant to positively dealing with the component matching problem.
