On the basis of reserch work by Law C.K. from Princeton University and Beyer R.A. from ABRL, the characteristic behavior of HAN-based liquid propellant LP1846 droplet was studied in hot environments using a high speed camera and ultraviolet light oscillograph. Time series photographs of the droplet from heating to combustion end were obtained. Observations show that there exist phenomena of periodic expansion and contraction and microexplosion for LP1846 drops in a range of 120  ̄ 160℃. The mechanisms of characteristic behavior for the droplet were discussed. Several characteristic parameters of ignition and combustion were also measured quantitatively. The results are of interest and important forimprovement of regenerative liquid propellant gun performances.
