禁忌语和委婉语是普通的语言现象和普通的文化现象，也是文化语言学的孪生子。在文明社会的语言禁区里，人们用文雅、含蓄或动听的委婉语代替粗鄙、直接或者难听的禁忌语。生活中的禁忌语和委婉语与人体、人体器官、生理现象、性行为和生、老、病、死、葬等重大主题有关。
