There is a suit of well-developed terrestrial deposits with great thickness in the Pishanand Hotan areas,southwest Tarim Basin.The age determination and stratigraphicalcorrelation have been argued for many years.The strata were called Yarkant System andassigned to the Upper Permian through Lower-Middle Jurassic based on the fossil plantsbefore the 1960s.In 1962,Sze et al. renamed it the Yarkant Group to
