北宋王朝一建立，夏州拓跋政权就与其保持友好关系，多次出兵助宋抗击和讨伐北汉。宋太宗即位后经略重心北移，试图消灭拓跋夏政权，结果适得其反，李继还不仅恢复了＂故土＂，而且占据灵州。德明时与北宋保持了二十余年的和平友好局面，是夏宋关系中最密切的时期。

Abstract The Tuoba power in Xiazhou kept a friendly relationship with the Song Dynasty since it s establishment and sent troops to help the Song government defend and attack the Bei Han Dynasty. But when Song Tai Zong came to the throne, he shifted the strategy to the north in an attempt to wips out the Tuoba power.
