rom November 1992 to August 1995 , one handred and three patients were performed operations usingvideo-assisted thoracic surgery in our hospital.There were 77 male and 26 female patients in this group.Theages were from 2 and half to 74 year old(mean 41.93 year old). The procedures included lobectomy(n=3) for lung carcinoma,lung tubeculosis and bronchiectasis;lungwedge resection(n=20) for benign and malignant lung tumors;blebectomy with pleurodesis (n=47) for spon-taneous pneumothorax;lung biopsy(n=6) for interstitial lung diseases and lung tumors ; pleural biopsy(n=9) for pleural diseases; pleural biopsy with pleurodesis (n=8)for malignant pleural effusion; sympathectomy(n=2)for hyperhidrosis and mediastinal tumor resection(n=4)。Five cases (4.5%)were converted into thoractomy because the lung tumors could not be resected thoraco-scopically and for radical operations. No death and severe complications occurred.All of the procedures weresuccessful for diagnosis and treatment in this series.
