摘要 In a number of renal disease tubular epithelial cells often display hypertrophy rather than hyperplasia. This hypertrophy, characterized by an increase in protein conten and cell size, as well as an accumulation of extracellular matrix, is a key process which may lead subsequently to tubulointerstitial fibrosis and end-stage renal failure.
