摘要
Osteomyelitis is characterized by rapid bone degradation at the infection site. Although osteoclasts may be activated by prostaglandins elaborated by bacteria or by osteoclast and activating factor and interleukin-1 released by lymphocytes, they are rarely observed in the histology of acute osteomyelitis in which neutrophils predominate. We investigated the hypothesis that the rapid resorption of bone in acute osteomyelitis is mediated by neutrophils.
