14 groups of different EEG epochs have been analysed through observing their effects on BEAM from both of the brain electrical background and the breaking out (abor-mal) brain electrical activity. The result shows that different EEG epochs have no apparent effects on the result from the analysis of EEG background. However, the amount of abnormal content of EEG epochs can lead to a change in the result of BEAM. When the amount of abormal content is more than 25 per cent, these epochs will greatly effect the result of BEAM (P< 0. 01) .The article thus suggests: 1. It is desirable to take 30 seconds of epochs for analysis in EEG background. 2. The abnormal rate in the taken EEG epochs for analyzing the breaking out (abnormal) brain electrical activity must be more than 25 per cent. 3. Making separate analysis of the brain electrical brackground and the breaking out (abnormal) brain electrical activity will be beneficial to get their respective characters with a more accurate result.
