潮汕人移居海外述略

A General Survey of Chaozhou-Shantou Emigrants for Abroad

本文以大量的数字材料为依据，较为全面地概述了潮汕人移居海外三个突出阶段，即汕头辟为通商口岸之前、辟为通商口岸之后至新中国成立及新中国成立以后的不同历史背景与移居人数和出洋过程，并对其促成移民的政治、经济因素作了阐述，为海外潮人的研究提供了较为系统而丰富的历史资料。

Based on abundant statistic data, this paper gives a fairly full account of the history of Chaozhou-Shantou emigrants leaving for abroad in three stages, namely, before Shantou became an open port, after Shantou became an open port up to the founding of New China in 1949, and since New China was founded in 1949. The paper also furnishes relatively systematic and detailed information about the number of emigrants and the course of emigration in respective historical stages as well as the political and economic factors acounting for the respective emigrational tides for further study of overseas Chaozhou-Shantou pepole.
