Studies analyzing the factors limiting sustainable development of agiculture and animal husbandry on the basis of historic changes and current status of agriculture and animal husbandry in the plateau region of north part of Hebei indicate that extensive farming with low input and low output imbalance structure of agriculture forestry and animal husbandry are the major causes resulting in deterioration of ecological system.Researches conducted in Zhangbei Experiment Station for several years have proved that as a strategy the combination of agriculture and animal husbandry is a successful way for sustainable development of agriculture and animal husbandry in the plateau region of semiarid area.The present papter has discussed and further pointed out that adjusting the structure of agriculture,forestly and animal husbandry, building up fertile,high-yielding and stable farmland,adopting intensive farming and couservaion tillage,growing artificial forage grass with high quality, using intensive animal breeding and feeding are effective measures for improving ecological environment and sustainable developing agriculture and animal husbandry.
