On August 16, Sri Lanka’s opposition People’s Alliance defeated the United National Party that ruled Sri Lanka for 17 years, but it failed to win a majority of seats in Parliament and began to woo political parties to form a coalition government. After winning election, Sri Lanka’S president invited the opposition People’s Alliance to form a new government.
