Measurements and simulation at Lin,an Background Station (32'25'N , 119'40'E, 132 m asl) show theelevated levels of ozone and its precursors in the rural area of East China- Photochemical reactions controlledby solar radiation is believed to be the determining factor for variation of surface ozone- Measurements ofSO_2 , CO, CO_2 , N_2O , CH_4 and NMHC were also made at this site- Study of the correlation between NO. andSO, demonstrates that the biomass burning is an important local emission source of NO_x. These results werecompared with those at Waliguan Baseline Station , located in Southwest China. It can be seen that social de-velopment and human activities influence the atmospheric background level.
