Abstract Since the late seventies,China began to develop the MTBE production technologies. In coorporation with the collaborators,the Research Institute of Qilu Petrochemical Corporation has finished the development of the technology for the production of MTBE based on the fixed bed reaction-azeotropic distillation process and built a commercial plant in 1983. In recent years,a novel catafraction technology have been developed and successfully commercialized in refinery. This novel catafraction technology renovates the conventional catalytic distillation technique,that makes the MTBE production technique a new progress.
