ACCORDING to archaeolo-gists,as early as 5,000 yearsago the local culture ofpresent-day Fujian Provincee was calledthe Tanshishan culture.When Empe-ror Wudi of the Han Dynasty con-quered the Minyue nation,large num-bers of people immigrated from theCentral Plains into Fujian.After theSong and Yuan dynasties,the Mari-time Silk Road brought prosperity toQuanzhou,a major sea port in Fujian.In more recent history Fuzhou andXiamen were opened as trading portsthrough which foreign culture andWestern civilization poured in.East-
