关于“材料”定义之我见

Concerning the Definition of Material for Composition Writing

本文从“材料”一词的本意及文章写作的实践出发,对目前国内几种影响颇大的写作学专著关于“材料”这一概念的定义进行了分析评论,提出了“材料”的定义应当是:“凡可用于写作的事实和事理及文章所表现的具体内容,统称为材料。”

This paper begins with an examination of the original meaning of 'material', and, viewing from the angle of composition writing practice, makes a critical review of the definition of 'material' found in several monographs on composition writing now much influ- ential in China. The author is of opinion that facts, natural links between facts, and grounds on which to found a view, etc. , that can be used in composition writing, should be regarded as material for composition writing.
