摘要
本文以事实的资料对红头船产生的时间作了精密的考证,指出前人认为红头船产生于清雍正九年的错误,比较确切地回答了红头船产生的时间问题。同时,文章依据红头船产生的年代及社会背景,提出了红头船是潮汕华工较大规模向东南亚移民的时间上限的标志的观点,为红头船与潮汕华侨出洋史的关系作了进一步的探讨。
Based on full and accurate data, this paper makes a precise dating research on
the red-stem boat, and concludes that the boat did not make its first appearance in the 9th
year of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty as had been believed by earlier researchers.
Also, based on the time of the making of the boat and the social background thereof, this pa-
per holds that the red-stem boat marked the upper limit of time in which the first batch of a
relatively large number of Chaozhou-Shantou-born Chinese workers emigrated to Southeast
Asia, thereby extending farther afield the reseafch work on the relationship between the red-
stem boat and the history of Chaozhou-Shantou-born Overseas Chinese going abroad.
