Since it was used as a stimulating technique of oil or gas wells to raise productivity and recovery ratio in the late 1940s, the hydrofracturing technique has become an extensively adopted method of in-situ stress measurements at the great depth, because it does not require large-scale excavating but only drilling and injecting fluid with high pressure to crack rock around the borehole.
