This paper presents the result of research testings on a vehicular spark ignition petrol engine fueled with neat methanol. Based on the analysis of emission and combustion characteristics of the methanol engines, this paper indicates the way that methanol engines can operate with lower emission and high efficiency, which is a valuable reference to modify the normal vehicular petrol engines to the neat methanol engines.
