Early in the Wester Zhou Dynasty, people always held a drinking party on the third day of the third moon at water's edge to get rid of evil influence. This ancient custom had been followed by gentlemen and fairmaidens, princes, dukes, marquises and ministers of later ages. They often enjoyed the Drinking Festival at a payilion which had a twisting water channel for floating wine cups. The Xi Shang Ting in the Imperial Palace is just the historical witness.
