English writing can be roughly classified into three categories—exposi-tion, narration and description. Of the three, exposition is especially imp-ortant to all people learning English since much of what they read and mostof what they write is exposition. What is exposition, then? According toWebster's New World Dictionary of the American Language, exposition iswriting that sets forth and explains. Generally speaking,exposition answersthe questions of how and why,and organizes its subject not in space or timelike description or narration, but by logic. The expository writer is
