p-Tolylsulfenyl chloride adds regioselectively at the C(11)=C(12) bond of cembrene 1 to give 11-(R)-p-tolylthio-1-(S)-cembra-2E, 4Z, 7E, 12(20)-tetraene 2 following a rapid HCl elimination. Two new cembranoids, 1-(S)-cembra-2E, 4Z, 7E, 12(20)-tetraene 3 and 1-(S)-cembra-2E, 4Z, 7E, 11Z- tetraen-20-o1 4 are prepared from 2.
