《那年夏天》是作者的长篇小说处女作。小说以石家庄西郊的省农研所大院为背景,描写了1966年"文革"刚开始的那年夏天,发生在农研所一群中小学生身上的故事。作者以自己少年时代的亲身经历为创作素材,采用现实主义创作手法,把那个时代青少年的成长历程浓缩在一个特殊夏天里集中展现,注重"塑造典型环境中的典型人物",唱响了一曲那个特殊年代的"童年歌谣"。

The novel That Summer is the first book of the author.The setting is the campus of Hebei Agriculture Institute in the western suburb of Shijizhuang.It tells a story about a group of school children in the summer of 1966——the beginning of the ＂Cultural Revolution＂.On the basis of his own experience,the author describes and reflects the growth of adolescence concentrated in that summer realistically,pays much attention to ＂creating typical characters in typical environment＂ and has composed a special ＂childhood ballad＂ of that time.
