史锡尧先生在自己多年的语言研究实践的基础上,提出我们要想获得对语言的相对完整的认识,必须把语法、语义、语用这三者结合起来进行语言研究的思想。史先生的"语法、语义、语用三结合研究语言"的思想,不同于语法学界"语法(句法)、语义、语用三结合研究语法"之主张,具有很高的方法论意义与实践意义。史先生在其语言研究的三个主要方面——语法学研究、修辞学研究、词汇学研究中,努力贯彻并实践着自己的这种语言研究的思想,并取得了为学术界所瞩目的成果。《史锡尧自选集》就是史先生的这种理论开拓与实践创获的缩影。

On the basis of his years linguistic studying and practicing, Mr. Shi Xiyao raised the thought that in order to acquire a comparatively completed recognition of language, we must make a combination of grammar, semantic and pragmatic before doing linguistic research. Mr. Shi＇s thought of combination of grammar, semantic and pragmatic has profound technological and practical meaning, which differ it from the suggestion existing in grammar circles that to combine grammar （syntax）, semantic and pragmatic on purpose of studying grammar. This thought has been hard implemented and practiced by Mr. Shi in studying grammar, rhetoric and lexicology, which are the three main parts of his linguistic study and made great achievement which gained great attention of the entire academic world. ＂Personal anthology of Shi Xiyao＂ is an epitome of exploitation and practice of Mr. Shi＇ s thought.
