摘要
在近作《凶年纪事》中,库切一改对传统现实主义的不屑,对19世纪俄罗斯现实主义经典小说大加赞美。本文对库切的态度转变试图作以下解读:一,它体现了经历后现代思潮后的库切开始把创作重心转向回归道德、回归生活的意旨。二,然而在艺术表现手法上,库切依然故我,坚持后现代主义的创新之路。因此,把这种转变理解为作家对现实主义传统的迎合或是对后现代思想的背离都是片面的。当然,这种转向无疑影响了库切的后期写作:在传统与创新、道德与艺术的关系的探索中,库切的创作迈入了一个新的阶段。
In Dairy of a Bad Year,J.M.Coetzee expresses reverence for the 19th century Russian Realistic novels, which forms a sharp contrast to his prior utterances against Realism.This thesis examines the change and proposes that his warming up to Realism signifies a new turn in his late writings,namely,a more ethics-oriented approach to life and art.It interprets Slow Man and Dairy of a Bad Year in terms of Coetzee's endeavors to highlight morality and ethics,and concludes that in his exploration of tradition and innovation,morality and art,Coetzee's writing moves to a new phase.
