Discussion on the Influence by the Missionaries' Chinese Reports and Researches on Western World in Modern Time

近代来华传教士对中国进行大量的报道与深入研究,并留下众多相关的西文著述,这些活动对西方世界产生重要影响。具体表现在为殖民者起情报搜集作用、为西方政府和差会等机构提供决策参考、对西方大众起到知识信息传递的作用、对西方宗教界与信徒民众起传教的鼓噪作用及对西方尤其是美国汉学的近代转型起推动作用等方面。深刻反映了近代传教士文化传播者与沟通者的角色属性;也折射出近代东西方文化交流的时代特征。

The missionaries who come to China largely reported and deeply researched China and handed down numerous relational foreign language writings.These activities brought about important influence on western world.The particular representations were as follows：the role of gathering information to colonist and providing policy decision reference to the institutions of western government and missions;the role of transmitting knowledge and information to western people;the role of missionary advocacy to western religion groups and Christian populace;the role of pushing forward western（especially American） Sinology to modern transformation.These aspects deeply suggested the characteristics of role of modern missionaries between cultural peddler and communicator,and reflected the characteristics of western and eastern cultural exchange in modern time as well.
