Revisiting Tangtaizong’s National Outlook

人们多称赞唐太宗"四夷一家"、"爱之如一"开明进步的民族观,并将其原因归结为魏晋南北朝以来民族大融合的历史趋势和具有少数民族血统的家族背景等因素,然而很少提及唐太宗民族观的另一面,也并未对其民族观中存在的两种对立观念进行分析,这里对唐太宗的民族观及其成因再作粗略探讨。

Tangtaizong has often been praised for his enlightened national outlook,who 'regarded all the ethnic groups as one family',which is attributed to the historical trend of ethnic amalgamation since the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern dynasties and Tangtaizong’s family background with minority ethnic ancestry.However,another aspect of his national outlook is seldom mentioned and analyses are not conducted of two opposing views in his ethnic outlook.Therefore,the writer attempts to make an alternative exploration of Tangtaizong’s national outlook and the causes for its formation.
