Western Culture Spread to China and the set up of Economics Curriculum in Higher Education in the Late Qing Dynasty

19世纪中叶以后,在华西人将西方之经济学系统输入中国,除出版经济学译著外,还介绍西方各种经济学课程,如西方大学里的政治经济学,以及商业学校商学课程的设置情况,并且在中国的官方学堂及教会学校中以"富国策"、"理财学"等为名,逐渐引入经济学课程。在华西人对西方经济学课程的介绍与教学实践,对中国后来高等教育中经济学课程的设置产生了积极影响。

The Western Economic science had been communicated to China from the beginning of the 19th century when the westerner who lived in China published translations and works of economics. At the same time, they also introduced the economics courses curriculum, such as the political economy courses in the western universities and business schools, and they set the political economy courses in official and provincial schools used the “Fu Guo Ce” or “Li Cai Xue” as the name of course. What they did provided necessary foundation for the propagation of the political economics curriculum in China＇s higher education in a larger scale.
