Russian influence is vital to the emergence and early formation of British modernist literature, of which D. H. Lawrence is a major figure. This article, from the moral perspective, intends to explore the Russian influence on Lawrence＇s novel writing, by looking into Lawrence＇s criticism of ＂the moral scheme＂ as he reads in the works of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, presenting his idiosyncratic moral views in relation to novel writing, expounding the meanings of his so-called ＂blood philosophy＂, ＂blood life＂ and ＂phallic vision＂, and discussing the contextual factors that help generate the writer＇s theory of the novel as well as the influence Rozanov exerts on his later writing. It points out that Lawrence＇s critical reading of the Russian writers greatly contributes to the eventual formation of his unique theory of the novel.
