Based on the definition given by Frank Smith in regard to prediction and his analysis of the three major reasons of the need for prediction,the paper is aimed to discuss the necessity and significance of prediction in the reading process in the junior secondary school classroom teaching and verify the correlation between prediction and comprehension from the psychological and educational points of view.The paper also replenishes Kenneth Goodman's statement that 'Reading is psycho-lingual guessing game' and proves that prediction is the basis of comprehension and prediction is the core of reading.
