Currently infantile cataract surgery remains a difficult problem in ophthalmological practice. Because of physical way of optical correction and more effective amblyopia therapy, the application of primary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in infantile cataract surgery is becoming more acceptable, and the age of primary implantation be- come earlier. Along with the advances in ophthalmic microsurgical techniques and intraocular lens design, the IOL com- plications in infantile cataract surgery are declining. From the trend of history, primary IOL probably will become the way of choice of correcting aphakia in infantile cataract surgery in the near future. However, the current complications of implantation can not be ignored. Researchers should pay attention to the clinical application research on the primary IOL implantation in infantile cataract surgery. (Chin J Ophthalmol and Otorhinolaryngol,2011,11:341-344)
