摘要 弥尔顿的《失乐园》和但丁的《神曲》两部史诗均涉及地狱形象。两者在这一形象的刻画,尤其是在创作手法,环境刻画,神学寓意方面都有很多相似之处。这种相似性一方面源于但丁和弥尔顿对古典史诗传统和希伯来史诗传统的借鉴,另一方面源于后者对前者的继承与发展。不可否认但丁作为意大利文艺复兴的领军人物,其代表作《神曲》对其后的英国文艺复兴及诗人弥尔顿产生了深远的影响,但是弥尔顿在借鉴《神曲·地狱篇》的同时也有所创新,塑造出一个独一无二的地狱。这种借鉴与创新正是文学传统的伟大之处,也是文学创作的普遍特征。 There is the image of hell in both Paradise Lost and Divine Comedy.The two hells in both works have many similarities,particularly in the aspect of the technique of creation,the depiction of surroundings and religious metaphoric meaning.This is mainly attributed to the influences of the tradition of Classical epic and the Hebrew Epic.Besides,this is also the consequence of Milton's imitation to Dante's work.Undoubtedly,Dante,as a pioneer of the Renaissance Movement,has exerted great influence on the later writers after him,including Milton.However,while learning from the Inferno,Milton adds his idea,which creates a unique "hell" of his own.This kind of imitation and innovation reflect the greatness of the literary tradition,which is also a common feature in literary creation.
