Study on History and Geography of the State Fang

房国本为帝尧之子丹朱之后人所封之国,为祁姓,子爵,故称为房子国。春秋后期为楚国所灭。房国故城即汉晋时期的吴房故城和唐宋以来的遂平县故城。房国周围除蔡国较大之外,其他如道、柏、沈等均为子爵诸侯国。

Fang was a state conferred by Emperor Yao upon his son Dan Zhu who was surnamed Qi.Dan Zhu＇s son inherited the conferred state,so the state was called Fangzi（son of Fang）.The state was completely destroyed by another state Chu in late Spring and Autumn Period.During the dynasties Han and Jin,the place where Fang had been located was called Wufang,and since Tang and Song it has been called Suiping.Around Fang,Cai was a larger state but others such as Dao,Bai,Shen,etc.were all small conferred states.
