Development of Adult Education in Macao:A Preliminary Exploration of Its Features and Challenges Ahead

澳门开埠400多年来由于澳葡政府不重视教育,成人教育在推进民众教育上承担着极为重的作用。本文回顾了澳门成人教育的发展历史,分析了澳门成人教育的发展特征及存在的问题,展望了澳门成人教育的未来发展趋势。

Because of the Maeau Portuguese Government＇s ignorance to education since its inception over four hundred years ago, adult education in Macao has been playing a very important role in promoting local public education. Especially in the recent 30 years adult education in Macao has dealt with the major social changes both before and after the handover as well as the great challenges and problems caused by the rapid economic development. As a result, it has filled the gap created by the lack of formal education in Macao, effectively improved the education of Macao people, made a new contribution to the implementation of ＂One Country,Two Systems＂and ＂Macao people governing Macao＂, and achieved new experience as well. Therefore, adult education in Macao has become a unique landscape in local educational development since the new millennium.
